AN EXCITING MIX OF AMERICAN FULL FLAVOR MEETS PALE ALE
Hop(e) & Glory has been on my mind for a long time. I’m personally a great fan of craft beer. To flavor snus with hops has never been done before. I like pushing myself when it comes to experimenting with tastes and flavors. With one foot in tradition and the other in the future.
In this exotic snus I took it even a stup further. I used traditional (classic) american hops to get the american west coast IPA feel. In the american IPA you’ll find herbs, pine and lemon flavors.
To spice it up I used one of my personal favorite tobaccos, the Perique from Lousiana. This ads a slight round taste to the snus.
I hope you like it. I love it. Enjoy.
Master Blender, Craft Snus
The American IPA is a different soul from the reincarnated IPA style. More flavorful than the withering English IPA, color can range from very pale golden to reddish amber. Hops are typically American with a big herbal, pine and citric character like grapefruit, bitterness is high as well. Moderate to medium bodied with a balancing malt backbone.
Hops are the flowers of the hop plant Humulus lupus. They are used primarily as a flavoring and stability agent in beer, to which they impart bitter, zesty, or citric flavors; though they are also used for various purposes in other beverages and herbal medicine. The hop plant is a vigorous, climbing, herbaceous perennial, usually trained to grow up strings in a field called a hopfield, hop garden (nomenclature in the South of England), or hop yard (in the West Country and U.S.) when grown commercially. Many different varieties of hops are grown by farmers around the world, with different types being used for particular styles of beer.
We use Perique tobacco as a condiment. Perique is a unique and rare type of tobacco that comes exclusively from one small swath of land near New Orleans. Once the leaves have partially dried but are still supple (usually less than 2 weeks in the barn), any remaining dirt is removed and the leaves are moistened with water and stemmed by hand. The leaves are then rolled into “torquettes” of approximately 1 pound (450 g) and packed into hickory whiskey barrels. The tobacco is kept under pressure using oak blocks and massive screw jacks, forcing nearly all the air out of the still-moist leaves. Approximately once a month the pressure is released, and each of the torquettes is worked by hand to permit a little air back into the tobacco.
After a year of this treatment, the perique is ready for consumption, although it may be kept fresh under pressure for many years. Extended exposure to air degrades the particular character of perique. The finished tobacco is dark brown – nearly black – very moist with a fruity, slightly vinegary aroma. The fruity aroma is the result of hundreds of volatile compounds created by anaerobic fermentation of the tobacco. Many of these are responsible for the flavors of fruits and are often found in wine.
Hop(e) & Glory comes in Original and White. What would suit my lip the best you might ask? Below you can read about the main differences, to guide you to the best taste experience for you.
Original is more of a direct flavor approach. In short you can sum it up by saying it’s pre-moisted. If you’re looking for a quicker and tastier experience this is for you.
~ vs ~
White has a slower taste experience. Here it’s your saliva that does the moistening process. If you like the feel of not too runny snus and appreciate the more sneak up on you taste, this is for you.
